Untitled Sculpture, 2018
A sculpture in PLA sized 46x38x42 cm, 3D printed with a Delta WASP 60100 and finished (following some sanding and touch-up sessions with isopropyl alcohol) with a bi-component epoxy resin, a plastic anchoring primer, a water-based titanium white spray pigment, and a glossy, water-based anti-UV acrylic varnish.
Polylactic Acid, also known as PLA, is a thermoplastic monomer similar to polypropylene or polystyrene. It is environmentally friendly and contains no toxins.
The sculpture is an artist’s proof created from one of several ‘high-poly’ 3D organic modeling studies (please refer to Soft Bodies, 2016-2017) and is part of the artist’s private collection.
It was produced in Sassari (Italy) at the ArtLab (Resource and Innovation Center for the Arts), located in the former Masedu soap factory and managed by the Mario Sironi Academy of Fine Arts. I express my gratitude to the Academy and my friend Pier Paolo Luvoni (artist and sculpture techniques teacher at the same Academy) for their support and cooperation.
